Congratulations! You have brought home a new best friend- a bunny! You will find that your new rabbit companion will bring you much joy, though your vaccum cleaner may not necessarily agree!
Some of the first things you will want to do is set up an area for bunny only. I recommend an area that is easy to clean, such as a floor where you can easily sweep debris straight outside, or, designate an old vaccum for your rabbit area only as you will need to clean up every day, or, at the very least, every other day. Rabbits poop constantly, but luckily, it’s very easy to clean up.
Many people prefer to keep their rabbits outside, however, for this article, I will not focus on that.
When I unexpectedly received my first bunny friend, I hadn’t a clue what to do or how to take care of him. Unfortunately, he was confined in the kids’ bathroom for a few days while I scoured the internet in search of information. Thankfully, this time around, I was a quick study and he was soon permitted the run of our home!
If you choose to keep your rabbit indoors, you can do that relatively inexpensively, and still have a “hoppy” bunny! Here is what you will need; you can find these items for a few dollars or a bit more at a WalMart or a pet store:
BOWLS A water dish that won’t tip, preferably a clay one. Unless you are going to be keeping your bunny in a small cage, you do not need a drip spout water container. Rabbits can drink just like other animals. One or two food dishes which won’t tip over, again, heavy, of the clay or similiar type.
LITTER BOX: You can buy a regular cat box, but do not buy cat litter as it is dangerous if ingested or breathed by bunnies! Hay is an excellent choice. Other types of litter to use are derived from alfalfa, oat, citrus or just plain old paper, though paper will do nothing to take care of the strong urine smell of a bunny. As rabbits are very clean animals, it’s very important to clean their areas often. It’s also important that, once you have arranged their area, to leave it ‘as is’ as much as possible, as rabbits are creatures of habit and like their areas just so.
FOOD: HAY! Hay is very important to a bunnies’ diet! Rabbits are vegans, and therefore must have grass, hay, some fruits and veggies. If you are going to a farmer for hay, you want the square bale hay, not the round bale. The round bale is ‘junk’ hay- the type cows eat. Rabbits’ digestive systems cannot handle that type of hay. You also do not want to offer straw. A moderate amount of pellets are okay as well, unless you happen to have an underweight bunny. They adore carrots, apples, pears, timothy grass. Limit cabbage and lettuce as this can give a rabbit diarrhea.
What we did was have a bag of carrots, pellets, (dried, processed rabbit food), timothy grass and apples always on hand for our rabbit. We let him outside in a roomy cage during the day to eat plenty of fresh grass, clover and some pellets, and at night we gave him free access to pellets, timothy grass, a bit of apple, carrots and pears.
WATER: Rabbits drink A LOT! Always provide fresh water. We have two dogs and two cats, so we change our water several tmes a day. Change your rabbits’ water at least two or three times daily. They all drank from the same bowls, so I wash the bowls every day as well.
SLEEP: Rabbits are nocturnal, meaning, they are active in the early morning and evening hours. They will find somewhere to sleep during the day. My rabbit usually slept under my bed. However, this is not encouraged because rabbits tend to dribble quite often and it’s hard to get under a bed every day to clean up rabbit poop! This is a good time to put the rabbit in its’ own private spot.
Rabbits love to hide, so a small doghouse, a box with windows cut out, or even a chair with a big sheet or a blanket covering it are all good places for a rabbit to hide out and feel secure.
TOYS AND CHEW-THINGS: Rabbits not only love to chew, but they must as well. Their teeth continue to grow, so they must always have something to chew. Good choices, of course, are carrots, fruits, untreated wicker, pine cones, cardboard, and twigs. If you do allow your bunny to have free run of your home, you must bunny proof, which is akin to baby-proofing, as your bunny will chew everything- wires, furniture, and a lot more.
Choose cardboard, baby toys (laugh as they throw these and kitty toys!), phone books, balls of any size. Give too many toys, not too few. If you give too few toys or activities, you will soon find your baseboards, sweaters, wires, furniture, shoes and other things chewed!
Now that you have the basics, settle in for a few days with your new bunny! Keep your bunny in a designated spot for those few days as he or she learns to use the litter box, learns where his or her food is and just learns that you are a friend.
One last thing: Be careful when picking up your bunny- he or she is not a kitten or a puppy! Rabbits are very shy and easily scared creatures, and they are animals of prey, so when you pick them up, let them know you are there, and pick them up from their sides, and carefully- NEVER by their ears, and never from behind as you will startle them and find yourself with some nasty scratches. Earn their trust. If at first, your bunny will not allow you to hold him or her, don’t fret. I will address that issue in another article, as well as a favorite rabbit issue of mine, called grooming.
If your rabbit does approach you in the meantime, talk to him or her softly, scratch him or her behind the ears, under the chin, on the back jaw and on the top of the head.

4. When the butter is melted pour eggs in and stir immediately. Continue to stir the entire time the eggs are cooking this will keep the eggs forming only small curds.
5. As the scrambled eggs begin to thicken slowly they will begin to look like cottage cheese curds.
6. Once the scrambled eggs form curds and are glossy remove from the eggs from the heat.
7. Continue to stir the scrambled eggs for one more minute while they finish cooking.
Avoid overheating the scrambled eggs this will cause the proteins to bind and cause large dry chewy curds.

We had the dubious distinction of having two members of America’s royal court of Political Correctness get involved in what the mainstream media has been calling, “Mexico refuses to apologize in racism row with U.S.” [1]
Lord Jesse Jackson came to Mexico to meet with President Fox while Prince Al Sharpton could not wait to grace the doors of the Mexican Consulate in New York demanding apologies from President Fox to American Blacks.
What was it that President Fox did that so irked Lord Jesse and Prince Al? Notice I did NOT say “irked America’s blacks” because I do not for one minute believe that these two American Ideological Imperialist, Jackson and Sharpton, speak for America’s Blacksno matter how much they insist that they do.
Well, they, Jackson and Sharpton, took offense when President Fox made an innocuous statement that, “Mexican immigrants do jobs that not even blacks want to do there in the United States”. Notice I said, “They took offense” rather than President Fox made an offensive statement.
Of course, Jackson and Sharpton went into high gear because that is what they do. It is their job. It is their role in life to keep those tax-deductible contributions coming into the coffers of the nontaxable, nonprofit organizations they run. If they didn’t come flying into action, as the self-appointed vanguards of the African-American branch of American Ideological Imperialism, then the contributions would soon dry up and they, of course, cannot have that.
So, Jackson and Sharpton, always prepared and at the ready, decided to engage in a little American Ideological Imperialism with the President of Mexico. And, here is what I mean by American Ideological Imperialism:
An imperialist, of course, is someone trying to implement a policy of extending his rule over foreign countries or a political orientation that advocates imperial interests. This began in America’s own backyard.
Within America itself, this Ideological domination of the various so-called minorities was born and now inhabits the thoughts and minds of the American people. It is popularly called, Political Correctness. The effects on America have been startling and profound.
“Political Correctness is Marxism, with all that implies: loss of freedom of expression, thought control, inversion of the traditional social order and, ultimately, a totalitarian state. The effects of this philosophy have become strikingly clear in our day. Co-author Dr. Gerald L. Atkinson outlines the proposed tactics of the early cultural Marxists. The immediate goal is to destroy “all barriers to the introduction of more women and minorities throughout the power structure.” These methods of so doing include “laws and lawsuits, intimidation, and demonizing of white males as racists and sexists.” A strangle-hold on popular media and the universities and what they are allowed to say and teach is a key element of their long-term goals. To pro-life, pro-family proponents, in an age where a man can be arrested for proclaiming sodomy to be a sin, or who can be fired from a teaching position for daring to discuss God, these tactics will sound eerily familiar.” [2]
American Ideological Imperialism is the exportation of America’s Marxist Political Correctnessthe loss of freedom of expression, thought control, inversion of the traditional social order and, ultimately, a totalitarian state.
That is exactly what Jackson and Sharpton were doing this week. Someone dared to cross Jackson’s and Sharpton’s self-perceived and self-imposed ideological line on race so they flew into action to “straighten out” the President of Mexico. In other words, President Fox’s freedom of expression, thought, and the traditional social order of his Mexican culture be damned.
Jackson and Sharpton were seeking to impose their political orientation, which advocates their imperial interests of forcing their views of race over the face of the earth. President Fox happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and is now the object of their arrogant wrath.
Listen to this:
“In a phone interview with The Associated Press, Sharpton said he wasn’t satisfied with the contradictory expressions of regret issued by the administration of Vicente Fox this week. He said he would seek an “unequivocal, formal” apology during a meeting with Fox on Monday in Mexico City.” [3]
Here is the scary part of all of this (other than Jackson and Sharpton being xenophobic Americans knowing nothing of Mexican language much less its culture): JUST WHO DO SHARPTON AND JACKSON THINK THEY ARE? These two clowns and yes, I just called them clowns, are acting like this is an International Incident, and they are the diplomatic representatives of the United States. What a couple of ding-dongs. I am embarrassed that Mexico let them into the country to engage in this act of utter nonsense!
Here is the dangerous part of all of this: The Central Proposition of something called Cultural Imperialism applies nicely to American Ideological Imperialism. It is, in fact, virtually the same thing in my view:
“Although several authors have posited their own interpretations of cultural imperialism, the main proposition of the theory can be identified in the work of one of the main cultural imperialism theorists. Cultural imperialism proposes that a society is brought into the modern world system when its dominating stratum is attracted, pressured, forced, and sometimes bribed into shaping its social institutions to correspond to, or even promote, the values and structures of the dominating center of the system (Schiller, 1976).” [4]
Is this not what Lord Jackson and Prince Al were doing in this particular instance of American Ideological Imperialism? Were they not, as the self-imposed and self-perceived (talk about delusions of grandeur!) representatives of the United States trying to “promote, the values and structures of the dominating center of the system”?
These two men were indeed on an American Ideological Imperialist mission to force Mexico into the mold of their worldview of race. They were in Mexico in an attempt to promote the values and structures of the dominating system of their concept of what is right and what is wrong.
This is why America and its Political Correctness, in all its forms, are so very wrong. This is why it is so dangerous. This is why it will eventually be the undoing of America itself.

This is not the America I once knew. But, it is what America has become and it is the America my wife and I will forever grieve. We live in Mexico now and it is here we will stay.

The Red Hat Society beginnings started in a thrift store in 1997. Queen-Mother (official title), Sue Ellen Cooper, purchased a special red fedora. A few months later, Cooper gave a similar fedora to a friend, along with the poem “Warning” by Jenny Joseph. In the “Warning” poem, Joseph writes about an older women in what eventually became the official “Red Hatter” uniform, red hat with a purple outfit. By 1998, The Red Hat Society was well on its way to spreading across the globe!
What makes The Red Hat Society brand so powerful? Although there are many reasons, here are the top three:
1) Eye-catching Uniforms: The Red Hat Society has a consistent look. You see it in organizations, but in how many associations have you seen it? I have never been able to look at a group of people in a park over 100-yards away and say, “oh, looks like the local Rotarians are having lunch in the park.” However, I have personally done that with The Red Hat Society. The outfit makes it easy to see who is in and who is not. If you happen to find a women wearing the outfit that is not already a member, I bet she would jump at the opportunity to be a part of such a sisterhood! When a group of ladies is out wearing the red hat uniform, you notice and probably talk about it. When enough people are talking about you, your brand is going to grow.

I am proud to say that my mom is a member of the Red Hat Society in Las Vegas, Nevada. Friendship and fun is easily visible if you have spent any time around some Red Hatters.
