I have never been fond of white-water rafting, probably because I don’t like cold water. The sport consists of a raft, fast moving cold water, raft riders, and a raft leader/guide. I once saw a picture of a group of girls out for some white-water rafting fun. The girls in the picture were all smiling and waving to the camera while the leader’s eyes were straining to see down stream. No doubt he was looking for the next big rock, up coming turns in the river, or other challenges that they would have to navigate.
To move from a good leader to a great leader you need to be a leader that keeps “going” because of your vision, a leader that is continually “growing”, and a leader that is “showing” your team how to achieve a preferred future.
What gives you the energy to keep going is a balance between your personal vision and identified passion. True vision is inseparable from the leader, and reflects the leader’s most basic values and beliefs. If it does not, the leader cannot “sell” the vision to his or her team with integrity. If a leader does not instill confidence, then the vision will not inspire a following.
If you are like many who are asking, “How do I find my personal vision or a vision for my organization?” The following questions will help you on your quest:
- Look within you: What do you feel?
- Look behind you: What have you learned?
- Look around you: What is happening to others?
- Look ahead of you: What is the big picture?
- Look above you: What does God expect of you?
- Look beside you: What resources are available to you?
In order to keep growing you must manage your daily agenda. Your daily agenda is managed with good time management techniques. The real question is… “Are you the master of your time, or is it the master of you?” The following concepts will help you maximize the twenty-four hours that God has given you today:
- Establish measurable goals and plans
- Know how to invest your time
- Identify and eliminate time wasters
- Know yourself and your priorities
- Take time to set and evaluate goals
- Learn to say, “No”
- Delegate, delegate, and delegate
- Group similar and like activities together
- Organize for quick and easy retrieval
- Use a calendar and a to-do list.
To have an A-Team in your organization you need acquire the best talent possible. Talent is many times hidden, but once found it is like a polished gem. The leadership skills and abilities in your team will only be increased as you increase yours. Simply stated, “The better leader you become the better leaders your team members become.” As a leader, you must always remember that your team is watching and waiting for you to lead them with committed excellence and exuberant passion. As your team begins the journey to A-Team status your job will be to show them how to think with creative minds, and to empower them to accomplish the organizations vision and mission.

Direct Answers - Column for the week of June 16, 2003
I enjoy reading your column every week. I want to tell you about a family problem I am having at present. Recently our youngest daughter divorced after 22 years of marriage and two teenagers. This was a great shock to all the family as she never told anyone of her unhappy situation.
Now she is living with her high school sweetheart, who is also divorced. She says she is very, very happy. My big problem is that my husband of 54 years will not accept the situation and refuses to speak to this daughter.
I am not happy either, but have accepted it as I want to keep communication open with my daughter. How should I handle this problem with my husband?
Adelle
Adelle, we live in tornado country, and a few weeks ago several small towns near us were almost totally destroyed. Many people lost their home, their possessions, and their livelihood. The next morning some people were clearing rubble and rebuilding their lives, while others were wandering around stunned by their loss.
We vary enormously in our responses. Some people heal faster than others, and some adjust to change faster than others. Your husband lost a part of his life, and a son-in-law, he never expected to lose. Perhaps he is like the tough old oak not easily bent. You are more like the willow which is flexible and bends in a storm without breaking.
For now, you need to give your husband the time he needs to adapt to the change and be the flexible connection between father and daughter. You are like the old-style telephone operator making connections between two people. As long as you are in touch with both, keeping each aware of the other, you keep the distance between them from getting too great.
That is a positive, not a negative. There needs to be a little time for healing all around for everyone in this situation. Perhaps in time, or in a crisis, the connection can be made more direct. Your husband and your daughter may only be one incident, or one holiday, away from coming together.

Opportunity
My boyfriend and I have always had our differences, and though we are both strong-headed, we have learned to appreciate each other. We’ve been talking about marriage, but there is one issue I cannot get past. He is so selfish!
He contributes little to the household duties and financial obligations such as food and cleaning supplies. He spends large amounts of money on weekends and vacations with the boys, but can only rarely take me out to dinner. He shops the Wal-Mart clearance racks for holiday gifts. Christmas was a toothbrush and bath mats.
I strongly dislike the area we live in and would like to relocate. He says he grew up here and will never live anywhere else. I was recently laid off, and the only positions in my field are in other cities. I want to work so I can fulfill my half of the financial obligations, but he says he cannot leave and I should just keep looking.
Prudence
Prudence, opportunity knocks all the time, but the problem is we usually can’t recognize it for what it is. We expect the Prize Patrol to show up with balloons and a check for a million dollars. That isn’t going to happen. Usually opportunity shows up as something mundane, like getting laid off from our job and thinking about where our life is headed.
You are thinking about marriage, but you should be thinking about 50 years of bath mats and toothbrushes from a selfish man. You want to keep up your half, but where is his half?
You’ve been given an opportunity to live where you choose. When you go there, you may find a man who doesn’t have differences you can’t live with.

The first time I ever made a bet I was sixteen years old. I looked a lot older than my age and I had no trouble placing the bet. I had saved up $500 I had earned at the Dairy Queen that summer. As my father was a gambler I knew all about the ponies. By the time I was 12 I knew how to handicap a racing form. My father had taught me. Those were the things that we talked about over dinner.
There was a horse that I had been following that summer. The horse’s name was ‘Don’t Tell Helen’. The horse rarely won but always seemed to place or show. For some reason I took a liking to this horse. Maybe it was because I liked the name? Or maybe because the horse was always an underdog and I sympathized with it?
It was a Tuesday in September when I decided to place my first bet. I cut school in the afternoon to go to the race track. ‘Don’t Tell Helen’ was running in the third race. The odds were stacked tremendously against the horse. It had been moved up in its class for this race. And everything my father had taught me told me that I should not bet on this horse in this race. But something inside me, call it a hunch, told me to take the chance.
So I bet my $500 on ‘Don’t Tell Helen’ to show.
I didn’t watch the race. I went inside to the bar and had a cup of coffee. When the race was over I checked the tote board. ‘Don’t Tell Helen’ had finished dead last. I ripped up my ticket and left the race track.
I wasn’t angry. My father was a gambler and he had taught me easy come - easy go. But I had learned my first valuable lesson in gambling.
Never go with your emotions. If it is a feeling or a hunch don’t follow it. If you are going to gamble be a professional. Follow a system and stick to it. And that is what I have done ever since.

Masters Hood
The masters hood is worn by students who are graduating or have graduated with a masters degree. In most Commonwealth universities, there is a difference between the color and lining of the hood worn by bachelor students and that worn by masters students. The masters hood has a lining made of colored silk as opposed to the bachelors hood whose lining is made of white rabbit fur. The colors of the lining may represent the institution that is conferring the degree. For this reason, the masters hood must not have a divided trim which gives the wearer a representation of more than one degree.

Ok, let’s start with the amazing story of
Robbie and how a little-known scripture in the book
of Galatians got him healed of cancer -
after the doctors had given him only
6 months to live!!
Ready? Here we go…
Robbie at 45 was diagnosed with terminal
cancer several years ago and was given just
6 months to live. He and his wife Nancy,
resigned to this fate, and retired to a
small community to wait for the end.
They were Christians. They believed the Bible.
So, instead of blaming God like so many in this
kind of situation do, they made up their minds
that they were going to study the Scripture
and pray till the very end.
An old story remembered
But Nancy also remembered a story she’d
read years ago. It was about a certain
missionary in the jungles of Africa who
came down with a deadly disease and was
left to die. After a week of intense
suffering and pain, he had a dream.
In the dream, he saw his Bible opened at a certain
chapter and two verses of scripture highlighted
in red. He woke up, managed to open his Bible
to that chapter and painfully copied out the
two verses.
Scripture Verses in Action
Every few hours he would pray using those two verses.
The pains were tormenting him. On the third day,
he drifted off to a painful sleep after the prayers,
as usual. Many hours later, he was awakened by
a fearful sound - the roaring of a lion. He leapt
to his feet, and started running blindly for a while.
Then he stopped.
It suddenly hit him that he was completely healed…
he was feeling no trace of pain at all!
Nancy remembered this story vividly and
hope began to rise in her that God could
also intervene and save the life of her husband.
Persistence
So they continued to praise God,
even in this circumstance. They kept right
on thanking Him. And they kept praying.
Then it happened.
During prayer one night,
a verse of scripture in Philippians kept coming
into Robbie’s mind. To his surprise, Nancy
stopped abruptly after a few minutes and announced
she was going to search for a verse that’d been
flashing in her mind since they started praying.
Guess what? It was the exact same verse
that Robbie was thinking about. They opened
the Bible, found it and began to use it
everyday in prayer.
The miracle begins
The 6 months came and went. Robbie was still alive.
In fact, he seemed to be getting better and
better everyday.
One year. Two years…
Robbie was back on his feet.
He even went back to his old job for a while.
Five years later, he retired to become a full
time missionary. He’s still in the mission field
a decade after he was supposed to be dead from
terminal cancer!
P.S. The scripture in Galatians and the prayer
points that Robbie prayed are all detailed
in the latest edition of my popular ebook

Microsoft Great Plains could be tuned and setup to fit most of horizontal markets. You can deploy third party modules or build your own custom logic in Great Plains Dexterity. Today we’ll look at the options to automate building & construction business. We’ll try to use technical language to be understood by programmer, technical consultant, IT system/database administrator, web developer.
• Project-Oriented business. Construction company is project oriented. You incur expenses, labor, inventory against the building and stick to the budget in order to meet the expected profit. Microsoft Great Plains has Project Accounting module with budgeting, expenses, inventory, labor. If you need phases with their budgets - you should probably look for one of the third party project modules, such as WennSoft JobCost. If you are established business with decades of history - you might still be using such legacy (and very efficient in Phasing functionality) Project module as Intellisol Project Accounting - in this case you are looking to convert it to either Great Plains Project Accounting or other current third party module.
• Financing. Builders usually finance the projects. When you do construction project budgeting - you need automatic financing cost estimation. This is MS SQL Server stored procedure, incorporated into Great Plains Dexterity customization for project accounting module.
• Sales. It is natural way to discount the property if potential customer is willing to finance it or pay upfront for the future property. In Great Plains Receivables Management (RM) or Sales Order Processing (SOP) modules - you should have discounting quote/invoice. The discount amount is based on the phase of the construction
• Warranty. Certain percentage should be placed aside for warranty and payment to repair crews or subcontractors. Microsoft Great Plains has Field Service Suite of modules with repair automation logic/functionality. Expect the needs to customize it via Great Plains Dexterity or Great Plains Modifier with VBA
• Customization Technologies. Microsoft Great Plains is build with Great Plains Dexterity - this is former Great Plains Software programming language and IDE, it was designed in the earlier 1990th. Dexterity allows your customization work it Great Plains graphical environment and security realm. VBA/Modifier - it is for light customization of existing Great Plains screens - you can place your custom button through Modifier and then attach VBA script to this button - feel free to use ADO to connect to the database. Web applications - your can deploy eConnect to incorporate Great Plains objects into your web application - eConnect was initially designed for eCommerce developers. Crystal Reports - is reporting tool of choice.
Good luck and you can always seek our help in customization, implementation, integration and support. Call us: 1-866-528-0577 or 1-630-961-5918, help@albaspectrum.com

What is it that stops you from jumping off a 5 story building, is it the fear of falling, the sudden stop at the bottom or knowing that you cannot fly?
As a youngster you lay in bed at night fearing to let you leg or arm drop over the side of the bed lest the bed monster gets you. You knew there was a monster in your closet waiting to attack you the moment you built up enough courage to move out of your position.
Again you felt that natural fear when you went into water over your head. What was it that allowed you to finally give way and jump into the water, what happened to the fear?
These were not natural fears; they were a learned response since you were an infant. A baby has only two natural fears; they are for loud noises and being dropped. The rest of the fears come from training, those taught to us by others and personal experience.
We do not know about monsters or drowning until we see them on TV or hear about someone drowning, or our parents tell us about the dangers. We forget that babies are natural swimmers and we don’t know about monsters but we can relate to them because of our natural fear of the unknown.
Fear is a caution light; it is built in for our protection so that we do not rush into something that is beyond what we believe to be our own limitations. We do not jump because we know that we cannot fly or we cannot swim.
Fear is the greatest enemy of mankind and especially the fear of the unknown, the unproven, and the untamed. Fear has such a strong grip that it can make us physically ill the second we contemplate moving out of our box and it is fear alone that holds us back.
There is one thing only that can overcome fear and it is absolute, there is nothing that can equalize or neutralize it. Faith, trust, and believing pale in the light of “knowing.” It is “knowing,” that is the great manifestor, the creator of all that is and when we get into the position of knowing, fear is not a factor. If you know that you can fly, you will have no fear of jumping. If you know that you can swim, you will have no fear of going in over your head. When you get into the position of knowing a thing you are as God, you are the creator of what it is you desire. When you say you know you can do this and it is your truth, the deed shall be done and nothing can change that until you know something else.
Man’s greatest fear is in moving out of his religious box. Men of great minds and conviction treble at the thought of angering a vengeful God. Wise men fall to their knees and whimper for forgiveness should they question the word of this God. There is no greater fear than that of crossing the will of God.
As antiquated as this thought is, humanity has been acquiescing to an old God for centuries and by man’s own definitions of what God is and what he may or may not demand of him. Humankind has evolved in all areas but this one. He still carries the paper chains of fear the bind him. These chains would drown him if he jumped in deep water. He would hit the street very quickly should he carry them with in off the building. Although man has evolved, his God has not. Man fears any change in God and he does this because it is he who defines God and he defines God in his own image. His God has not evolved because man’s image of God has not evolved and this is because this image is cocooned in a web of fear.
Man’s greatest “fear factor,” is, that should he redefine a new God, God would retaliate and condemn him evermore to damnation.
God is “life,” the words are interchangeable and life is constantly changing by definition, and therefore God must change. To say otherwise, is to say that God is not life. Mankind fears God because man is God in human form and humanity fears itself, therefore if this is to be believed, God must fear man. The fear is unfounded and inappropriate for this time in our evolution; it no longer works for us. It is time to question the whole image we have of God. It is time to know a new God and with that “knowing,” fear does not exist. The fear can not be overcome until we “know” the God that is within usis us! For it is just as certain that we can not jump into the deep water until we know that we can make it.
