Run out of Cards in Seven Card Stud?

Most people don’t realize it, but if you are playing poker online at an eight person seven cards stud table, and eveneryone stays in, you will run out of cards. Granted, it is pretty unusual for eight poker onlineplayers to stay in the game as far as sixth street, but you still need to know how to handle a potential card shortage. Just in case the unusual happens to you, here’s the protocol.

If you are playing in a poker casino, it is comparatively easy to handle this situation because the dealer will do all the work. If you are playing at home, just mimic the actions of the dealer and you will be fine. If the dealer can tell that he will not enough cards to complete a full deal, he will deal a single card in the middle of the table. This card can either come from the remaining cards in the deck, or from the burn pile. It really just depends on the policies of the casino where you play. This last card serves as a community card for all the players to build off of. All the bets are placed normally; you just have one less secret card. The cards are completely reshuffled after the game. You may want to switch to a table with fewer players after experiencing this situation. You don’t want to do anything that may contribute to you losing the pot.
