I loved Norman Vincent Peale’s, Power of Positive Thinking as much as any book I have ever read. I have read Napoleon Hill’s books and I am an ardent believer in almost everything Dale Carnegie ever wrote. I have notes scribbled on the back pages of my Bible from Carnegie’s…How to Win Friends and Influence people, albeit I refused to read it at first thinking the title was too corny. For years now I have both pondered and studied the effects of positive thinking and talking, as against negative thinking. I have agonizingly and carefully begun to approach something that might at last qualify for a conclusion.
The sum of my conclusions could be found in one single verse of the Bible. And we know that all things work together for good to them who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 KJV
The key words in this passage being “all Things.” That is understood to mean the negative and the positive.
Few believers would not agree that difficulties and problems are part of the building of our faith and character. But in today’s world of positive thinking buffs it would be a weakness, an admission of defeat or even an act of faithlessness to even make mention of our problems. God has warned us that we will have tribulation in this world so who are these believers who seem to think that just to mention them would be faithless or negative. Since Jesus said it is enough that we be like the master (Mt. 10:25) then mentioning our troubles is no different than what our Master did. Jesus also said that we should be of “good cheer” when we were beset with troubles. The Apostle Peter said we should “count it all joy” when our faith was tried. It would seem that God is looking not for people who deny problems but face them differently than anyone else. The negative kept, silent or spoken openly has much less effect on our future than you imagine. Conversely, how you handle these matters has a more profound effect than you can imagine. God, it would seem, is watching the latter more than the former because after all this life is more of a battle ground than a playground according to the Bible.
Can the painful moaning of a dying soldier be thought of as complaints? Can that same moaning take anything away from the debt of gratitude a nation may feel for his sacrifice? A little show of pain isn’t an alliance with the negative forces of the universe it is merely a show of our humanity and our vulnerability. But today there are those who would rebuke us for even the slightest hint that we are undergoing pain, a problem or a negative outcome of any kind.
I was amazed to see that when Christianity Today reviewed Joel Osteen’s, Your Best Life Now, that they were not squeamish about saying that his emphasis on being positive became a negative. I couldn’t have agreed more. I see negative and positive together in this world but above that I see the will of God unfolding through it all. When I put my key in the ignition of my car as I prepare to drive to a crowded interstate highway, I see that as positive. I don’t think I will die in a huge accident, but just before I take off I do a very negative thing, I buckle up! God forbid I had to explain why I was doing that to a pathological positive thinker. To speak out loud that I may get in an accident after all would be the grand no-no.
The outcome of wars is often accurately predicted by military analysts that delve into the negative. That is they take the worst case scenario and make provision for that occurrence and thereby are prepared for such with contingencies. It Works, ask Norman Swartzkoff. Dale Carnegie advised many people to do this in order to take away the nagging power of doubt. The banana grower who was afraid that the trains might stop running before the crop could make it to market was told to envision that very thing. He made contingency plans, perhaps two or three of them and then he got on with the business of growing bananas without any further worry. He was told to see and plan for the negative to clear the path for a positive experience. Are you paying attention?
By now someone is saying, but God spoke the worlds into existence so we must recognize the power of the spoken word. Yes, and I do, his word not mine or yours. For your words and mine I would tone down their importance in the light of one very important verse of scripture. We had the dubious distinction of having two members of America’s royal court of Political Correctness get involved in what the mainstream media has been calling, “Mexico refuses to apologize in racism row with U.S.” [1]
Lord Jesse Jackson came to Mexico to meet with President Fox while Prince Al Sharpton could not wait to grace the doors of the Mexican Consulate in New York demanding apologies from President Fox to American Blacks.
What was it that President Fox did that so irked Lord Jesse and Prince Al? Notice I did NOT say “irked America’s blacks” because I do not for one minute believe that these two American Ideological Imperialist, Jackson and Sharpton, speak for America’s Blacksno matter how much they insist that they do.
Well, they, Jackson and Sharpton, took offense when President Fox made an innocuous statement that, “Mexican immigrants do jobs that not even blacks want to do there in the United States”. Notice I said, “They took offense” rather than President Fox made an offensive statement.
Of course, Jackson and Sharpton went into high gear because that is what they do. It is their job. It is their role in life to keep those tax-deductible contributions coming into the coffers of the nontaxable, nonprofit organizations they run. If they didn’t come flying into action, as the self-appointed vanguards of the African-American branch of American Ideological Imperialism, then the contributions would soon dry up and they, of course, cannot have that.
So, Jackson and Sharpton, always prepared and at the ready, decided to engage in a little American Ideological Imperialism with the President of Mexico. And, here is what I mean by American Ideological Imperialism:
An imperialist, of course, is someone trying to implement a policy of extending his rule over foreign countries or a political orientation that advocates imperial interests. This began in America’s own backyard.
Within America itself, this Ideological domination of the various so-called minorities was born and now inhabits the thoughts and minds of the American people. It is popularly called, Political Correctness. The effects on America have been startling and profound.
“Political Correctness is Marxism, with all that implies: loss of freedom of expression, thought control, inversion of the traditional social order and, ultimately, a totalitarian state. The effects of this philosophy have become strikingly clear in our day. Co-author Dr. Gerald L. Atkinson outlines the proposed tactics of the early cultural Marxists. The immediate goal is to destroy “all barriers to the introduction of more women and minorities throughout the power structure.” These methods of so doing include “laws and lawsuits, intimidation, and demonizing of white males as racists and sexists.” A strangle-hold on popular media and the universities and what they are allowed to say and teach is a key element of their long-term goals. To pro-life, pro-family proponents, in an age where a man can be arrested for proclaiming sodomy to be a sin, or who can be fired from a teaching position for daring to discuss God, these tactics will sound eerily familiar.” [2]
American Ideological Imperialism is the exportation of America’s Marxist Political Correctnessthe loss of freedom of expression, thought control, inversion of the traditional social order and, ultimately, a totalitarian state.
That is exactly what Jackson and Sharpton were doing this week. Someone dared to cross Jackson’s and Sharpton’s self-perceived and self-imposed ideological line on race so they flew into action to “straighten out” the President of Mexico. In other words, President Fox’s freedom of expression, thought, and the traditional social order of his Mexican culture be damned.
Jackson and Sharpton were seeking to impose their political orientation, which advocates their imperial interests of forcing their views of race over the face of the earth. President Fox happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and is now the object of their arrogant wrath.
Listen to this:
“In a phone interview with The Associated Press, Sharpton said he wasn’t satisfied with the contradictory expressions of regret issued by the administration of Vicente Fox this week. He said he would seek an “unequivocal, formal” apology during a meeting with Fox on Monday in Mexico City.” [3]
Here is the scary part of all of this (other than Jackson and Sharpton being xenophobic Americans knowing nothing of Mexican language much less its culture): JUST WHO DO SHARPTON AND JACKSON THINK THEY ARE? These two clowns and yes, I just called them clowns, are acting like this is an International Incident, and they are the diplomatic representatives of the United States. What a couple of ding-dongs. I am embarrassed that Mexico let them into the country to engage in this act of utter nonsense!
Here is the dangerous part of all of this: The Central Proposition of something called Cultural Imperialism applies nicely to American Ideological Imperialism. It is, in fact, virtually the same thing in my view:
“Although several authors have posited their own interpretations of cultural imperialism, the main proposition of the theory can be identified in the work of one of the main cultural imperialism theorists. Cultural imperialism proposes that a society is brought into the modern world system when its dominating stratum is attracted, pressured, forced, and sometimes bribed into shaping its social institutions to correspond to, or even promote, the values and structures of the dominating center of the system (Schiller, 1976).” [4]
Is this not what Lord Jackson and Prince Al were doing in this particular instance of American Ideological Imperialism? Were they not, as the self-imposed and self-perceived (talk about delusions of grandeur!) representatives of the United States trying to “promote, the values and structures of the dominating center of the system”?
These two men were indeed on an American Ideological Imperialist mission to force Mexico into the mold of their worldview of race. They were in Mexico in an attempt to promote the values and structures of the dominating system of their concept of what is right and what is wrong.
This is why America and its Political Correctness, in all its forms, are so very wrong. This is why it is so dangerous. This is why it will eventually be the undoing of America itself.

This is not the America I once knew. But, it is what America has become and it is the America my wife and I will forever grieve. We live in Mexico now and it is here we will stay.

Give yourself a gold star
Remember how rewarding it was in grade school to get back an assignment with a gold star sticker or some other tangible acknowledgement of a job well done? Well you can apply the same psychological boost to your goal-based activities today!
Sure, you could go about this in the literal sense, adding a sticker or some other item that makes you smile, such as a rubber stamp, to your daybook, calendar or goal-tracking sheet as a way to reinforce your successes. But why not get creative and offer yourself a more fitting reward? After all, you’re a grown up now and your rewards should reflect this.
Ideas include:
Treat yourself to your favorite pastry or specialty coffee that you resist indulging in regularly.
Get a shirt or hat custom embroidered or screen printed (it’s actually fairly inexpensive to do this) that reflects your successes. For example, your hat may sport a self-created logo for your goal, to be worn while actively engaged in goal-achievement activities. Or a shirt may have a message like “Ask me about my success!” to encourage others to help you pat yourself on the back.
Give yourself a motivational award. Businesses do this all the time with “Employee of the Month” mugs and recognition pins, certificates, gift pen sets, etc. These items are available fairly inexpensively at motivation gift stores and websites. Even better, present it to yourself at a fancy dinner (in or out) complete with a short acceptance speech thanking all the “little people” (your friends and family who are dining with you) that made it all possible. Want more fun? Do this for every major milestone on the way to your success!
Purchase some brightly colored window paint markers (available at any auto-parts store or department) and paint inspiring or congratulatory slogans, such as “Oh yeah, who’s your daddy!” or “I’m number 1!” on the windows of your home and or vehicle, where you will see them often. Bonus points for painting it big enough to read from across the street - on the big picture window out front!
Buy a face painting or temporary tattoo kit (henna works also) and tattoo yourself with congratulatory or inspirational messages. Better yet, become your biggest fan and paint your whole face up, sports-fan style, in your favorite colors - and root for the home team (that’s you) all day long.
Decorate a special dessert (cake, dessert pizza, big cookie, etc) in a congratulatory or inspirational theme with icing, sprinkles, etc. Set your creation in front of your plate to admire all through dinner.
Create a boosting, “rah-rah” set of email messages (or just one that repeats) and load them into an auto-responder mailing program. There are many available on the web, and some are free (their ads appear in your email). “Opt in” to this self-created newsletter of support and at pre-determined intervals, you’ll find these little “fun-sized candy bars for the soul” in your inbox.
