This article relates to the Career Opportunity competency, commonly evaluated in employee satisfaction surveys. It explores issues such as internal growth opportunities, potential for advancement, career development importance, and the relationship between job performance and career advancement. It examines whether your employees believe they have a chance to grow within the organization. Studies show that lack of career opportunity is one of the top reasons why employees leave an organization.
Also, continually hiring open positions from outside the organization can be detrimental to morale when a qualified candidate is available internally. Topics covered in this competency are: perceived opportunity for advancement, existence of a career development plan, and organizational commitment to staff development.
This short story, Providing Career Opportunity, is part of AlphaMeasure’s compilation, Tales From the Corporate Frontlines. It illustrates how employers can offer career opportunity to their employees using a well-planned career development strategy, and reap the benefits of a knowledgeable and dedicated workforce.

While searching through the employment ads in my local newspaper, I noticed that several companies made a point of adding the line—-”we promote from within”. Those are definitely the companies I would apply to - if I were on a job hunt.
But, the fact is, I am currently working for one of those companies. That’s not to say that we never hire from the outside; sometimes it’s unavoidable. If an employee leaves the company with a unique level of skill or training, it may have to look outside for a replacement. The point is that whenever possible, our company offers a career opportunity to a current employee.
This advancement doesn’t happen magically. Employees have to be on the lookout for career opportunity within the company, and prepare for it. Our company helps them by operating a structured career development program. Managers are entrusted with the duty to help employees evaluate their skills and performance on a regular basis and create a plan for the future based career goals.
Departments also form career development teams. They meet regularly and help employees to define their goals, provide feedback about applicable training programs, assign duties to employees to help them gain new skills, formulate job descriptions and generally make sure that employee career development programs are on the right track.
As for my own career development, I’ve been promoted three times over the past five years. Once because of an opening left by a retiring coworker, and twice into new positions created due to expansion. A few months after I was hired, my manager sat down with me and began to work up a career development program. He was very helpful in evaluating my current skills and finding ways to learn new ones that would help me to advance. He evaluated me honestly and encouraged me to alleviate any shortcomings and examine problems before they grew into major issues.
I can’t imagine working for a company that doesn’t offer its employees substantial career opportunity. It takes more than just posting job openings, it’s a lengthy process that takes time, effort, organization and planning. Companies must be willing to invest the effort and money to cultivate their workforce. It’s a worthy effort, in my opinion. I’ll stay where I am - and those classified ads that I mentioned earlier? I’d be willing to bet that those positions are filled quickly - with no shortage of qualified applicants.

Question:
Where do you want your business to be 6 months to
1 year from now?
Do you currently have a business plan and are following it?
A person would certainly never think of building a new house
without first drawing up a detailed blueprint, and then following
the directions to construct it.
Yet, many people start and continue an e-business without the
foggiest notion of where they want to go and how they are going
to get there.
Investor’s Business Daily recently ran an article outlining the
key steps to building a strong business. #3 on the list was
developing an operating plan, then sticking to it.
So right now……take 30 minutes and write down where you
expect to be financially with your business in 6 months, in 1 year,
and in 3 years. Then write down how you plan on getting there.
For ages financial planners have touted the benefits of having
a budget for your household expenses. If they think it’s so important
for a home, then don’t you think it is even more important for
your business?
The plan does not have to be elaborate or highly detailed right
now, you can always add to it later. Simply write something similar
to a home budget. How much do you have for joining or starting
a new business? How much can you afford for advertising costs?
Consider this: if you are not willing to even write down some
sort of business plan, do you reasonably expect to have a thriving
business 3 years from now?
#1 on the IBD list was “Cash Is King.” Getting into a lot of debt
without quick profits to justify it, is what spelled death for many of
the crashed Dotcoms.
Many of these businesses had serious cash flow problems, but
because the money was flowing in so rapidly from investors,
they chose to overspend their budgets. When the bottom fell out
and the money tree quit producing, there was no real source of
continuing revenue to meet operating expenses.
Financing a rise on borrowed money is putting your business
into a high risk category. If your business is not making you money,
stop putting money into it!
Re-evaluate the situation, dump it if need be, and go on to
greener pastures. Continually spending money on a project
that is not giving you a sufficient source of income to justify
the costs, will mean you will soon be out of business.
#2 on the list is to evaluate yourself, your situation, and your
strengths. In other words, don’t do what everyone else is doing
just for the sake of doing something.
Your business must be something that you really enjoy, are
willing to work hard at, and will reflect your personal strengths
and abilities. Don’t put the proverbial square peg into a round hole.
#4 says that relationships are everything. First, you have to
believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in you, then friend, don’t
expect anyone else to either.
The Internet is a big pond and there are a lot of fish swimming
in it. Some are bottom feeders, some are top. You’ll never get
off the bottom if you don’t set your sites for the surface and then
believe that you do have what it takes to swim up there.
Being online you are going to need to establish your credibility
and integrity to the e-community. Keep your relationships with the
rest of the netizens clean, healthy, and constantly growing.
Another reason many of these e-businesses failed is because
management didn’t address the problems that were apparent
in their companies. As long as the money was coming in, they
thought all would be well. It’s easy to ignore problems when
times are good. But, when the business cycle turned, it was
too late.
All businesses have problems of one sort or another.
Ignoring little problems will only mean bigger problems in the
future. When your business runs across a difficulty or problem,
address that issue right now.
Remember what the little bird in one of Dr. Seuss’s books
said, “Why make big problems out of little problems.”

Web hosting has certainly evolved over the years from companies offering free web hosting to companies offering dedicated web hosting. Chances are, you are looking for something in between: shared hosting, but you are willing to pay a fee for this type of service. Fortunately, your options today are quite good thanks to the marketing efforts of some leading web hosting companies. Just what should you expect from a web hosting company? Importantly, what are you willing to pay for the service?
Web hosting companies are a dime a dozen but only a few are truly worth using. You may know some of the larger names out there, but I am not interested in naming them. Instead, there are certain things that a client of a web hosting company needs in order to be achieve satisfactory customer assistance:
Lots of Web Storage: The more, the merrier. Who wants to find out that there account is “full” after uploading a couple of hundred big files? You sure don’t.
Tons of Redundancy: No web hosting company should rely upon a single group of servers. We want big servers with lots of back ups. If one server crashes, all of our files should be able to run on another server. Near 100% up time is a must!
Gig Transfers: Don’t you just hate it when you have to upload a bunch of files one day and you get a notice saying that you exceeded your daily limit? Amateur hour! Instead, a web hosting company worth their salt will offer a huge monthly amount.
Free Domain Name: Why pay $25 for a domain name when most web hosting companies will allow for you to get this service for free as long as you host with them?
Around the Clock Support: Please, who needs a web hosting company that cannot be reached? Around the clock support is essential if you run your business around the clock.
One Fixed Rate: Don’t nickel and dime us. Instead, quality web hosting companies must offer a low, fixed monthly rate.
Script Support: Offer easy downloads of popular software packages including PHP, MySQL, WordPress, OsCommerce, and more.
We also want forums, free email, live chat, and whatever else you have to offer. Oh, by the way, can you deliver top notch web hosting for less than $10 per month? If so, we’ll sign up and stay with you awhile!
Yes, web hosting isn’t rocket science but it does require some uniqueness and initiative on the parts of quality web hosting companies. If not, expect the bulk of your customers to look elsewhere.

If you are planning on being away from your home for an extended amount of time, it is important that you secure your home. You will not be able to enjoy your family vacation, concentrate on the business meeting, or feel relaxed while visiting relatives, if the thought of your home being violated is always in the back of your mind. There are many things that you can do before you leave, as well as things you can have arranged to be done by a third party, that will ensure that your home, property and pets are safe.
The most important aspect an owner needs to be concerned with is that their home does not look vacant while they are away.
Statistics report that generally a home is burglarized every 12
seconds. It is important that you leave your curtains open when
you leave. Closed curtains indicate a vacant home. You can also purchase light timers. They will turn on and off different lights in your home throughout the day until you return from your trip. It is also good to invest in motion sensor lights for the outside. As added protection, you may want to keep a radio on somewhere in the main part of the house. The volume need not be very loud, just loud enough to fool an intruder. It is also good to have an alarm system. Make sure that it is turned on when you leave.
Do not leave house keys under rocks or flower boxes around your
home. Make sure they are all removed prior to your departure.
Never leave a message on your phone that you are away. That is
just asking for an intruder.
You need to also be aware that your lawn can also give signals
that you are away and your home is vacant. If you are leaving
during the warmer months, clip your lawn prior to your departure. Arrange in advance to have someone come and cut your lawn while you are away, as well. It is also good to cut back plants or shrubs that would provide a good place for an intruder to hide, or lurk behind. If you live in a cold climate and it is winter, be sure that you make arrangements to have someone you trust come and shovel the snow while you are away. Nothing gives a clue that no one is home more than a driveway and side walk that is piled under 6 feet of snow. If it is pool season arrange for someone to clean your pool while you are away.
Make sure that all outside work buildings or sheds are locked.
Mowers, bicycles, and tools need to be secured inside. It is
important that you do not leave your garage door opener inside
any vehicles that will be left on the driveway. You can even
arrange to have someone move your vehicles around periodically in your driveway to give your home the lived in look. Check all windows prior to leaving, as well as outside doors. Dead bolts on the doors, and key locks for the windows are the safest. Just make sure that the keys are removed from the window locks before your trip. Do not forget your skylight windows, or the small fanlights that may be in your bathroom. If an area is small enough for a head to fit through, it needs to have a lock on it.
You need to contact your local post office and have all mail kept there until your return. Cancel all newspaper subscriptions, as well. This is not an uncommon practice, and it will ensure that you don’t have papers piling up on your walk, or mail spilling out of your box. That is an open invitation to an intruder.
It is also important that you are careful during casual conversation with the clerk at the store, dry cleaners, clubs,
etc. Do not let anyone in the general public know that you are
planning a trip. You never know who might be listening. It is
also important that you do not list your address on your luggage. You would be surprised at how many homes are burglarized because a future burglar saw your address on your luggage at the airport. They simply follow you to the departure gate and ransack your home that evening.
You can contact your local law enforcement office and let them
know that you are going to be away. Give them the dates of when you will be leaving and when you will be returning. They will provide a patrol unit to drive by your house every day to be on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary. If your
neighborhood has a neighborhood watch program have your home
listed as one of the homes that is in need of being watched.
It is a good idea to also make an inventory of your valuables, with serial numbers and model numbers where possible. This
information comes in handy if you ever have to file an nsurance
claim due to theft.
It is important that you make adequate arrangements in regards to any pets that you may own. You can board them at a shelter, if need be, though the comfort and care of your pet should always be kept in mind. It will be unsettling to your pet to be separated from you, make sure that their temporary home is as loving and comfortable as possible. No family pet should be kept in a cage for an extended amount of time. Make sure that you are leaving your pet with someone who is an animal lover, and not in the business of kenneling for greed. You should never forget the goldfish in the tank, or the plants in your home. It would be sad to come home to a floating fish and dead house plants. You may want to make prior arrangements to have someone come into your home to take care of these other special family members.
Prior to leaving it is important that you go through the
refrigerator and dispose of any products that will have spoiled
before you come home. You need to reduce the temperature on the hot water heater to a lower temperature, as well as the
thermostat on any central heat and air units that you may have.
Make sure that all outside water hoses are disconnected if it is the winter season, it will help to keep your pipes from bursting in extreme cold weather. It is also important that you check all smoke detectors to verify that they are in working order.
An option that you may want to check into that will give you
peace of mind is a house sitter. This is a person that comes in and takes care of all the above listed things and stays at your home while you are away. Your pets will be able to stay in their own environment, the plants will be watered, the pool cleaned, the mail checked, the lawn will be mowed, etc. The house sitter’s voice will be heard on the end of the telephone line when a future burglar calls to check to see if someone is home. It will be the house sitter that they see coming and going from your home on a regular basis if your house is under surveillance by a future burglar. The presence of the house sitter is the number one burglar deterrent.
A house sitter can also provide invaluable services like
forwarding faxes to you if you run a home business and an urgent matter needs to be dealt with. They can also provide immediate attention to your home if there is ever an emergency.
House sitters are the best thing you can do in regards to your pets. They can take your furry friends for their scheduled checkups, and tend to them if they get sick or hurt. They can also bathe them, feed them and love them until you get home. You can also leave a grocery list with your house sitter. When you return home, you will have a pantry and refrigerator stocked full of food, and you will not have to worry about that dreaded chore upon your return. A house sitter can also be in charge of getting any needed prearranged servicing done on your vehicles, or your home, while you are away. Above all else, the main service that a house sitter provides is that you can call home and see how your home is doing.
There is no greater feeling than to have peace of mind and to be able to enjoy your time away from home. The only feeling that can match that is coming home and finding that your home is still intact, your pets are well, and that your valuable are where you left them. You cannot leave home without having someone watch over your home. The day of everyone leaving their front doors unlocked are over. Make sure that you do everything you can to assure that your home, pets and possessions are well-protected while you are away.

We all have heard of Data Mining and we have all seen the abilities it can produce, but we also know how tedious the collection of data can be. It is the same for a little small company with a few customers as it is for a large company with millions of customers. Additionally how do you keep your data safe?
We have all heard of Identity Theft and the importance of secure data. But just because we have spent millions of dollars in IT work does not mean we know it is accurate? Things change fast you see; people get new telephone numbers, change addresses and jobs at least one of the three every three years. The chances of any database having accurate information is simply not possible.
Thus if we are data mining we need a way to verify which data sets are accurate and believe it or not the last set of data may not be the most accurate therefore we cannot simply discard the old data for the new data you see? We need ways to accelerate the accumulated data so we can run thru it as fast as possible yet we must insure that our data mining techniques are taking into consideration miss matched data and incorrect data, along with inaccurate data.
Data Mining may have been over hyped a little and those business systems or even government data mining systems at the NSA; if they do not take into consideration these thoughts they are basically worthless and should not be considered you see? Think on this in 2006.

Sicily has made an indelible mark on the European traveling scene. Is it because of the Volcano that is still burning, or is it because of the rich cultural heritage that the city carries? The European experience has been adorned by the Italian influence. The Greek domination has left such marks on the settlements around Rome and rest of Italy including Greece and Sicily that it has become next to impossible to miss it. The roman leftovers are grand enough to attract the historians as well as the tourists.
Sicily is one of the most sought after destinations in Italy. The tourism advantage that Sicily can give is just an added feature. The reason for this is that it is essentially a culturally charged city. The city has in itself treasured the exploits of the second Great War as well as the ancient historical facts that a significant part of world history. The city holds a distinct aura as differentiable as its language, which is a mixture of many nearby languages. The Mediterranean influence on the place can be felt by the cuisine that is served in its lavishly decorated restaurants.
Sicily holds a unique history that is flanked by the exploits and rule of many dynasties. The geographical location of the place gives a very wrong picture of it being part of the Italian rule. Though it is now a part of Italy but its origin and history is different from that of Italy. The main land of Sicily is separated from the Italian land and thus it finds many indigenous people living in it. How ever it has been a favorite of almost all the empires. The Carthage, the Greeks and the Normans fought over the land too much and it saw the changing the hands. Rome was finally the victor and they ruled it for a long time. Then in the late 19th century Italy took over the control. However the impact of mafia on the island is too much and large part of the land is still under its influence. The city also has the honor of perpetrating the mafia concept.
The Greek and the roman influence on the city can be seen by the architecture that is seen around the city. The enormous size of the cathedrals and platforms dazzles the mind of the visitors. The Sicilian backdrop has been used by many film makers and performers. The sheer grandeur of the roman and Greek constructions makes it one of the most sought after destination in southern Europe.
Mount Etna is one of the volcanoes that is still active apart from being the tallest in Europe. The rich thick forest cover around the Etna region is an added attraction to the tourists. Apart from the seldom traffic problems and delays in flights and trains, the city offers a vista of traveling experiences.
The city is easy to approach, as it is a part of most of eastern and southern European tours. The individual visit can also be a good idea. From romanticism of the mafia to the raw power of nature Sicily has it all.

It may be too unsophisticated, but keeping your life simple is an important key to longevity. Aside from prolonging life, it makes a long life happy.
What is the purpose of a long life, if you spend most of it in illnesses?
A short life is better than a long life of being bedridden, medicine sustained, and pierced by dozens of intravenous tubes.
In all the perplexities that are going on around, many people have forgotten how simple “simple” really is. They have forgotten that one key to a healthy life is being downright simple. Simplicity is often times so profound to other people that they do not believe it unless someone complicates it for them.
They find it hard to imagine that once upon a time, people lived comfortably and very happy that satisfaction exists even without TV, air conditioners, or phones. They lived much longer and healthier lives long before the discovery of Science and Medicine. They don’t need some social science expert to tell them that needs are proportional to progress, and that needs cannot stay as they are while progress goes on, especially at a fast pace.
Well, some people have found the secrets to keeping simple while progress goes on running a crazy race around them. We will see this later in this book.
This thing about life being complicated (and should be made complicated to enjoy it) has been impressed on people by media and by a “metropolitan culture” that says life is all about competing and coping up.
Daily, from every possible angle of attack, we are bombarded by manufactured suggestions that we cannot be simply simple that you got to have this and that, and you got to be this and that or be left behind by the majority and be worlds apart from the rest.
This is mostly the spirit of modern commercialism. Though not actually said, the mindset of “being simple is a sin” has become rampant.
In case you haven’t noticed, commercialism has become the strongest life pressure, and the strongest life killer! The pressures brought about by stressful competition can kill!
Recently, Australian health experts discovered that too much emotional and work related pressures produce chemical reactions in the blood that later develop into fatal diseases like cancer.
According to physical therapists and massage therapy experts, pressures build up lumps in the body that constrict smooth blood flow. These constrictions produce your unexplained body aches that can later weaken your body defenses. They are harmful to your health.
Advocates of simple living say that Commercialism is blowing surface-deep physical and vain emotional needs out of proportion by tricking the conscience of people into believing that non-conformities to suggested and highlighted commercial needs are bad.
Simply put, it is saying, “You’re a loser if you don’t have this!”
Commercial needs are often for physical beauty, trendy accessories, fame, prestige, fashion, and other mundane, temporal, and non-essential things, all of which man can live without. These things excite and resurrect the spoiled brat in people.

One of the biggest established trends on the market front today, and still gathering momentum, is cocooning - the desire to perform the majority of social and cultural interactions (working, entertaining, relaxing, etc.) from home, rather than by going outside the home. This trend was strongly reinforced by the 9/11 tragedy, as many people began to review their lives and, sometimes for the first time, consciously decide how they wanted to live them rather than just letting life happen to them and going with the flow.
This poses an obstacle for many businesses who rely on brick and mortar style storefronts and foot traffic, as well as for those in the entertainment industries who rely on people “going out” for a large part of their income. The advent of home theaters, rec-room “bars” or “cafe corners” - sometimes better stocked and appointed than local business versions - and similar cocooning-based home improvements are becoming more and more popular as people are rediscovering the delights of having friends and family over for social time as opposed to meeting them outside the home in a third-party establishment. This trend is here to stay, according to all economic markers, so what are some of the ways in which your business can take advantage of this trend rather than being diminished by it? Here are some ideas:
1. Create a “house call” option for whatever you do. Now of course this doesn’t work in all fields, but you’d be surprised how many it can be extended to, given a little creativity and thought. For example, a new car dealer might consider creating an exclusive “We bring it to you!” option for pre-qualified buyers, where interested parties can submit an application online, choose the model they’re interested in from an on-screen “sales lot” and have a sales person drive it to their house for the test-drive and negotiations. Where can your business create a house-call option to encourage cocooners to purchase with you?
2. Reconfigure services and other offerings to allow for in-home variations of previously outside-only availability. For example, the recent boom of home-delivered DVD rentals does just this - you pay a consistent monthly fee and keep the movies as long as you want, sending them back when you’re ready to trade them in for new titles. No longer do you need to leave the house to stay home for movie night - the ultimate expression of cocooning. How can you recreate your service or product to meet your customers’ desires to stay in?
3. Consider adding “companion services” that make your service or product more attractive to cocooning customers. A pizza delivery service now offers free movie rentals with a qualified purchase as part of their “specials and sales” menu. These creative combinations save customers time and money, and offer strong incentives to remain loyal. How can you partner your offering to create this sort of option for your customers? Hint: what are your customers likely to be doing or needing during or near the time they are using your service/product?
The trend of cocooning offers many challenges to traditional businesses, especially those that rely heavily on showroom sales and foot traffic income. However, with a little creative thinking, you can turn this obstacle to your benefit and pull ahead of the pack where your competitors are concerned. My advice? Stay home one day and examine all the things you do that could be improved or eased by some version of your product or services. See where you hit snags or annoyances in your goal of living, working and having a good time at home. Imagine your ideal customer at home - then do your best to keep him there.

Self-discipline. This is the single most important factor when you want to run your own business. If you have spent years in the work force, with someone else telling you when to go to work, what to do when you get there, when to take a break, then when to go home, you will have to re-learn how to behave. And Self-Discipline is the only way to do that. Another way to say it is Self-Control, Willpower, or Drive. If you can not find the drive to change your thought patterns about the way you work, you will not make it as a self-employed person.
That may not sound kind, but guess what? It’s not meant to! If you think owning your own business is a bed of roses, think again. When you are your own boss, you need to have the guts to make hard decisions, disappoint your friend when they want to go somewhere and you need to be working. You need to be willing to let your family eat a few meals without you, or even miss a reunion. You need to be willing to roll up your sleeves and do the grunt work needed to become successful.
Will every business with a dedicated owner become super profitable? No. Certainly not. But you have a 99% better chance at being super profitable if you know going in that you must be a hard task master on yourself. It is not the others involved in your business that must learn this, it is you, the owner. I have often thought I would never work for someone who demanded the same work from me that I do from myself. I don’t think there is enough money for someone else to pay me for working as hard as I do. I do it strictly for myself and my family. Am I super profitable all the time? No, but at times I am, and every 12-16 hour day I had to put in to get that profit was worth it. Every family event I had to miss was worth it. Because, afterward I was able to say I did it myself! I learned to put in the hours, days, weeks in order to have 6 months a year to do what I wanted to! Go where I wanted, and take with me anyone I wanted! How many years did I have to work for that terrible slave driver (myself) to get that much time off? Lots and lots!
Every eleven seconds someone starts a home business. That is a staggering statistic. So many people want to get in on the money to be made, be it online, offline, at home, in a service field or a franchise. It is great that the American dream can still come true. The bad thing about that dream is it will only be a dream to the many thousands and thousands of people who lack the self-discipline to be successful. There are more people with the same mentality as the family member I mentioned in Part 1, liking the idea of being a business owner, without the knowledge or discipline to be one.
If you learn self-discipline you will have the time for self-indulgence later. Can I put a time frame on this statement? No, I can’t, because people and circumstances are different. What is super profit for me may not be for you. But, without the self-discipline to be willing to do whatever it takes to be successful, the training, studying, hands-on experience, you will just be wasting your time and money trying to get started. If you want a business so you can sit in the office and tell others what to do, you probably need to work your way up the corporate ladder. If you want to be able to say you did it, with your own resources, strength, time, brains, then you have the best chance of being a good business owner!
A few years ago, pop-up windows were all the rage in Internet marketing. It seemed that every time one opened a web page they would be bombarded with offers for this or that. It had gotten to the point where surfing the Internet was almost like playing a video game; when the ads would pop-up one would try and close them out before another one came. This is precisely why we have seen the decline in the use of pop-up windows on the Internet today; surfers simply do not even look at the pop-ups anymore. They close the windows out before even reading the ad. Very often, a surfer will even leave your site if there are too many pop-up ads. They simply do not want the hassle of closing those windows while trying to obtain the information that your site has to offer. This information, while valuable, is not as valuable as the surfers time. Studies have shown however, that even with these set backs, pop-up windows are still an effective method of Internet marketing.
Is there some way that pop-up windows can be less irritating and still be effective? Yes! What if the pop ad were seen upon exiting your site instead of entering? This would allow the surfer to obtain the information that they need from your site, feeling that they were able to come and go quickly without being hassled by other ads and offers all the while making the surfer happy. You have left the surfer with a positive attitude and therefore are more likely to respond to the pop advertisement. This is being accomplished more and more by using what is being called pop-under windows. When the surfer comes to your site, the ad is opened discretely behind the your web page. Then, upon leaving your site, after obtaining all the information that they need , will see the ad and therefore be more likely to respond. Since the surfer has the information, he has achieved his objective and is now open to do other things; ideally respond to the pop under advertisement.
Not all pop-windows are created equally. There are some things that you can do to make your pop-windows, whether pop-up or pop-under more effective. The pop-window should be easy to “escape” from. If the surfer does not want to see the add, but has a hard time closing it out, they will likely become frustrated and could leave your site all together. You should either use a button to that will allow the surfer to close the window or be sure that the “x” is easily visible. Another good idea is to use a script that utilizes cookies. Cookie will prevent pop-windows from overloading the surfer since you can decide the frequency of the pop-windows, rather than each time a page is opened. Also be sure that there is no more than one pop-window per page.
When creating a pop-window, you will be asked to fill out a short information form, select the length of cookies, and choose the layout of the pop-window. When choosing the design of the pop-window, you can increase the effectiveness by creating a large headline that includes benefits that will be most appealing to the customer. You should also consider using incentives and lastly do not ask the customer to read a long and drawn out advertisement. Keep the message simple yet powerful and your pop-ads will be sure to generate profits for your site.
